We've already talked about this a little bit on Twitter, but once again, way to point out the disciples' reaction. That really drives it home for me too. The disciples knew threading the eye of a needle with a camel was impossible, not just humbling or difficult, impossible.

...without God, that is.

I like your last point with that question about Satan worshiping Jesus. I've certainly never thought of it quite like that before.

I'm a little confused on the last sentence, though: "But it wouldn’t have been sin for Satan to worship Jesus unless Jesus was God."

I understand and agree with the first part: "...it wouldn't have been sin for Satan to worship Jesus..."

But I don't understand the last part, the "unless Jesus was God," part. Shouldn't it be, "unless Jesus wasn't God"?

Couldn't you explain that a little more for me? Sorry I'm not following along well.

I came back to this again after thinking about it some more. I remember about a year ago, it struck me that I'm afraid to say, "Oh, my God."

Growing up in a Christian home, I knew that particular phrase was one of those often-taken-in-vain phrases that I should try to avoid... if only to keep other Christians from stumbling.

But in my haste to avoid it, I found I don't say it at all. Never. I think I first realized this when I found it in a Psalm. David certainly had no problem saying it. The point, as you pointed out, is to use it the right way... and it's actually more powerful than I give it credit for.

Anyway, your post reminded me of this again... and brought to mind some others I tend to not use. Let's bring it back, though... let's show the world how it's really done, that we really can call on God's name and that it really is powerful.

I just went through a Bible study in 2 Corinthians 6, which talks about where our ministry is found... then it lists ten lousy items like imprisonments and sleeplessness and so on. It reminded me that when we're looking for where God wants us, often we can look for where we're having the most difficultly. Because in those areas of difficult, we have to be completely dependent on God... and we realize it.

I'm probably going to write a post about it next week. The conformation in this post is fantastic.

That second to last paragraph nailed it. It comes back to the motivation. I mean, why are we having these healing services anyway? To glorify God or help ourselves?

Quite a fascinating read. Thanks for the detailed writeup.

I've made the theme of this new year marriage preparation, so this post is particularly timely for me. I've considered arranged marriage in the past, fairly seriously in fact. It's refreshing to revisit this concept.

Thank you... it's certainly something to keep in perspective while I plan and prepare.

Thanks for your comment. I took a few minutes last night to look through your blog and acquaint myself with the Thelema religious system, both through your blog and through other sources.

As best I can tell, Thelema mixes New Age philosophy/spirituality, Wicca, and sexual magick in an exaltation of human willpower. I'm afraid it's not terribly original; this is something that's been around for centuries upon centuries. It is the religious system that Rome devolved into; it is voodoo and demon worship and gnosticism.

Human religion is always an attempt to elevate man's will above God's. By that definition, the basic tenet of Thelema constitutes the oldest religion in existence:

"You will not surely die. God knows that in the day you eat of the tree, you will be like Him, knowing good and evil."

"You are your own god"...that's pretty much the most ancient and repeated lie of all time.

Thanks for giving me an article idea, though. ;)

Ecclesiates 10:10 If the ax is dull,
And one does not sharpen the edge,
      Then he must use more strength;
      But wisdom brings success.

Proverbs 8:14
Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.
Proverbs 15:33
The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

And the Joy of the Lord is our strength. Isaiah 53:10
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

So God took pleasure and joy in that when He bruised His Son, it made brought Him many sons. That was the Lord's joy.

So in that joy we rest - that we have been bought with Christ's blood.

And fearing Him in humility gives us wisdom.

The Word is sharper than any two-edged sword and
Ezekiel 21:9
Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD; Say, A sword, a sword is sharpened, and also furbished.

When we use a sword it is sharpened. We must sharpen our edge with the Word - iron with iron, then when the difficult times come, we will not have to work so hard to endure - Labor to enter that rest! He carries us when we trust in Him. If we are fighting against the blade, it will cut us down.
